The Battery (2012): Super Boring

Like what I usually do, I searched IMDB for movies before getting a copy. When I found the list of zombie movies, I’ve seen The Battery and it has a decent rating. So, I’m thinking that it may be real good. But unfortunately, it was Super Boring.

Among all the zombie movies that I’ve watched, it is the only one that makes me sleep. Honestly speaking, I didn’t bother to watch it full. I fast-forwarded it just to see how it will end. There are no enough thrills that I’m expecting even for a regular zombie movie. It doesn’t have anything to offer I guess.

It was really disappointing. I didn’t suggest it to anyone. It makes me sad, I love zombie movies and they didn’t give enough justice to that. I didn’t know what else I can say. I know you are bored right now, that is more than the boredom that I’ve felt while I’m watching this movie.

The Human Centipede 2 (2011): Disgusting But Great

In my search for the most disturbing movies, I saw the Human Centipede 2. I’ve read some reviews, I’ve watched the trailer and I grabbed a copy. My expectations are high with this one. Fortunately, I was not disappointed; it exceeded my expectations big time. I can say that it is the most disturbing film that I’ve ever seen. It was very disturbing, and it is very great.

I’m glad that the creators of the Human Centipede make it black and white. If they didn’t, I guess I wouldn’t be able to watch it scene after scene. I’m used to morbid scene, but this film makes me like a newbie. It weakens me in a good way. This is just one of the films that make me feel sick yet I love it. 

The story is about an avid fan of the first sequence of the human centipede. With his amusement of the movie, he created an evil plan to execute it on his own. But this time, he is doing it on his own – in the most brutal way one can imagine and in a medically-inaccurate manner. There goes the sickening part. He kidnapped several people (including the cast of the original human centipede), put them in a warehouse and when he reaches the number of people he desired, he begin the operation.

If you have a weak stomach, I discourage you to watch it. If you have seen the movies Chainsaw Massacre or the Saw series, believe me, it was horrible more than that movies combined. This makes me think twice if I will tag it as a great movie. I feel like the operation scene was over to the top, for me it was too much. But my second thought was there are only few movies that are nasty enough to satisfy the cravings of bored horror fans. I’ve applauded for that, thus I’m decided to tag it as a great movie.

Don Jon (2013): Super Sexy and Entertaining

I often watch movies out of Horror, Thriller and Mystery genre. If I watch a movie out of that genre, then that movie has a really convince me when I watch the trailer. I also read reviews about it. And I can say that Don Jon is super sexy and entertaining.

The plot of the story is fresh but the scenario might be encountered by many gentlemen. I applauded Joseph Gordon-Levitt for writing, producing and directing this movie. I also love that he is the main character because I’m his fan.

The story is about a man who is addicted to watching porn. He also hook up with girls but he didn’t find having sex with them more entertaining than watching porn. Then one night he met a girl that he really loves. However, his addiction still lingers and that leads to their breakup. After the breakup, he began to have an intimate relationship with his classmate that makes him rethink what sex is, and gradually let him out of his porn addiction.

The movie id clever I think and it was fun to watch from start to finish. It doesn’t have any boring scenes and it has steamy scenes that are not too pornographic. I can say that it is an erotic film but it is something that is made with artistic expression. There is nothing foul about the movie and that is why I love it. It was great more than the sequels of American Pie combined (sorry). And it is sexier than a typical porn clips (I’m not sorry about that).

My idol Joseph Gordon-Levitt is really great. After I watch this movie, I idolize him even more. Who would have thought of creating a film with that plot and having Scarlett Johansson as his leading lady? Hahaha Just kidding. But if you are reading this Sir Gordon-Levitt, I want to tell you that job well done! ;)

Contracted (2013): I’m Excited for Part 2 (I Hope There is)

The poster alone of the Contracted makes me want to watch it. Then there was a review saying that if you watch it, you will definitely think twice before you have sex with a stranger. That statement makes me more curious, so I search for a copy.

The movie was actually great. It meets my expectation and it gives me more than what I am expecting. I love how the main character was drag in a hellish dream. The timeframe was so flawless. First, it will capture your attention then you will be willing to go on and see what happens.

The movie is about a girl, actually a lesbian, who hooked with a stranger after getting drunk at a party. She just woke up at her house with a bad hangover. As she examines her body she noticed something wrong. She thought that it was just an ordinary bruise but she was gradually terrified as the symptoms are becoming worse. She seeks for help but the disease (which is first thought to be sexually transmitted disease) turns out to be something more horrible. Horrible enough that there is no cure, horrible enough that you really don’t know what it is.

I really love the concept and I was amaze by how it was ended. I never expected that the ending will be something like that. And that ending makes me wish so bad that there will be a part 2. I really hope that there is because it was really great. The movie leaves you hanging but never left you unsatisfied of what you have seen. I guess there are only few movies that can do just that. Spoiler alert! It ended up as a zombie movie! :)

But that was the last scene. I’m very curious about what will happen next since I really love zombie movies. To the creators of the contracted, please make a sequel! And make sure that it will be great as well.

We Are What We Are (2013): Surprisingly Disappointing

It has been weeks since I got a copy of We Are What We Are. So, last night, I decided to watch it because it has been in my files for too long. I remember that I saw the trailer which is somehow good, but the movie is surprisingly… disappointing.

I love the first half of the movie. It leaves questions in my head that I know will be answered at the end. There are great things running in my mind for what the second half will be. But as the clues unravel the truth, it was disappointing that it wasn’t given enough justice.

The plot is good but the presentation didn’t meet my expectation. I’m expecting something more. And I thought that it will be a great movie if Quentin Tarantino directed it. I’m expecting something gorier because of the concept of the movie but that wasn’t met. Something is lacking, not only the gore but the chills a great movie can give its audience.

The twist at the ending was good though. But it wasn’t enough to leave me awake last night. It was an ending that is not frightening enough. The climax was OK and I thought that it would be nice if there are more of those scenes throughout the movie to establish the characters more.

V/H/S 2 (2013): I Could Not Ask For More

For me, this is one of the best movies that I’ve ever watch in my entire life. Do you wonder why? The reason is simple; it gives me everything that makes me creep… ghosts, zombies, aliens and devils. These creatures were the stars I the movies that I loved to watch. I didn’t expect that all of them will be featured in the different flicks of the V/H/S 2.

V/H/S 2 makes every flick in the movie standout with their unique horrifying elements. That is the reason why it is a great movie. There are other movies that feature one of the creatures that terrify me but failed to do so even if their only goal is to explore that creature in the most terrifying way possible in a long time frame. The short films in this movie were able to do just that. Keeping you frightened before the next one starts.

Among all the flicks in the V/H/S 2, the alien part is what I loved the most. The setting is perfect, the sound is perfect, the acting is perfect and the chill is perfect. Everything is perfect. Even though it is short, I can say that it is still better than other full-length horror movie.

Aside from that, I also love the whole concept of the movie. There are two people who enter a house looking for something (I forgot what it is). They saw videotapes and the girl watched it. I thought they are useless but they make the movie complete. I guess that is the reason why I didn’t got bored watching the film. It wouldn’t give you time to take a pee or check your phone because it was able to caught your attention and never lose it until the end.

Before this post ends, I would like to thank the people behind this movie. Thank you for making this masterpiece and I hope that you will continue it. I’m looking forward for the part 3! :)

Wolf Creek 2 (2013): Better than the First

With all the movie series that I’ve watched, I noticed that the first movie was the best compare to the sequel or the other instalment. But Wolf Creek 2 is different. I can say that it is far better than the boring first movie that was released way back 2005.

The Wolf Creek that I’ve watched is pretty good at the beginning but as time goes by, it was really boring and futile. It does give me the creeps but that is not long-lasting. I even turn it off without finishing the whole movie because I was really sleepy at that time. And that is one of my criteria in identifying great movies… no matter how sleepy I am, it was really good, I will finish it until the end.

So, at first, I was hesitant to watch Wolf Creek 2 because I was very disappointed with the first movie. But at second glance, the reviews and comments convinces me to watch it. Good thing is it exceeded my expectations. It was a great movie after all.

The setting is still the same, but it was more terrifying. It shows off gore at the beginning and gradually shows it in a perfect phase throughout the movie. There was no boring time for me as I watch it. At first, I wonder how it will keep me at the edge of my seat since there are only two possible victims, but there comes a third victim that I didn’t expected to come in. And that what makes the movie great for me. The horror was prolonged farther than what I have expected.

To tell you honestly, I didn’t expect that there will be a part 2 since the first movie was really bad for me. I didn’t expect it and I didn’t wish for it to have a sequel. But to my surprise, there is a sequel. And I’m happy that it seems to make up for its previous mistake.

Frontier(s) (2007): Thumbs Up!

I saw that this movie has a decent rating and good reviews in IMDB. Since then, I was very eager to watch it. I’ve watched the trailer at YouTube and it makes me more excited. So, when I was able to get a copy, I watch it right away. I was happy that it was what I have expected and I really like it!

If you are the kind of person with a weak heart and stomach, you shouldn’t watch it, if you insist, make sure that you have prepared yourself. This movie is gory and morbid! It even seems to stop my heart for several seconds as I’m waiting for what will happen. This happens to me for three to four scenes I guess. I am a horror fan and only few movies were able to do that to me. I was happy that it satisfies my cravings for a best horror movie. I would even suggest this to my mother who is more a critic than me. She actually hates the movie the Dark Skies - which I thought was a great movie.

Let us go back the Frontier(s)… the funny thing is, at first, I thought that it was a zombie movie. I was even in that mind set as the movie begins. Even though there aren’t any zombies were showed, I was drawn with it. I think that it has a fresh concept. It was like an action movie at first and it turns out to be a horror movie as the story goes. That is what I love about it. Here’s a confession, when I watch movies of other genre, I always think of what the horror twist can possibly work for it. And that was exactly what the movie Frontier(s) has given me. And because of that, I can say thumbs up! ;)

The movie is about a gang of four young thieves who drive their way from Paris to escape from the Police and the riots caused by a political election. They separated ways while they are in the city and decided to meet at a motel. The group found out that they are staying with a dangerous family that later on tries to take their lives one by one. They also discover something evil about that place and the deformed children hidden in the tunnel. I wouldn’t spoil more about the story, but I think the family I was talking about is eating the people that they kill.

Evil Dead (2013): Vampires will be so thirsty while watching it!

I can still remember the first time I saw the original movie back in my childhood days. I can remember how the movie frightens me and keep me awake and afraid at night. So, the moment that I saw on IMDB that there is a remake, I was very excited. I watch the trailer on YouTube and that makes me even more excited.

The trailer alone is scary as hell. Expect that you will get more gore as you watch the movie. But honestly speaking, I was a bit bored as I’m watching it. There was even a point when I get sleepy. But that wasn’t because of the movie; I was just not in the mood that day. So, I’ll first share to you the opinion of my mom.

She said that the movie was so scary and it was far better than the original. I was like “really?”, because I don’t really appreciate it that much. She added that the effects were great as well as the story. It was changed a bit, because according to her, the survivor was different from the original. Don’t worry I won’t spoil you about that. I bet that the movie was really awesome because my mom was impressed. She is the kind of person who gets easily bored with horror films that don’t give her enough horror she is looking for.

Okay, now my point of view. I can say that the movie was great. And there is no doubt with that. The special effects and make up was incredible. The story line was awesome as well. I don’t know why I wasn’t scared at all, but I can say that it is scary. People are screaming in the cinema and there are moments when my mom was really shocked rising from her seat. It is gory and yes, it can be the most terrifying film you will ever experience.

If your kryptonite is blood, don’t you dare watching it. There are a lot of bloods in the movie. Like what my title says, the vampires will surely be thirsty as they watch it. Why not? The rain is so hard and it wasn’t water, it is actually blood. There are also flesh-cutting that was very grizzly. I can’t really understand myself why I wasn’t scared at all. I guess, it will be better if I will watch the movie for the second time around.

A Serbian Film (2010): Disturbing in a Whole New Level

There was this one time when I got bored and I search for the best disturbing movies of all time. I’m huge fan of unusual, eerie, and disturbing things you know… Most of the list that I’ve seen includes the movie A Serbian Film, and it captures my attention. I just got the name, read the plot and do not bother to read commentaries and reviews about it. I don’t want to be spoiled! And so, I watch it with just a little idea on what the movie is all about.

The plot is good; a retired porn star is offered a project in which he will be featured in a porn movie. The offer of the contract amounts to something that will make them real wealthy than before. So he accepted the deal without knowing what it is all about. The director said that it will be more artful, but the film is actually frightening and disturbing in a whole new level.

At first, he find himself in an unusual setting, got to meet the other cast but nothing sexual happens. But as they go on to the other scenes, the director asks him to do things that will satisfy their audiences’ out of this world fetish. He refuses when this turn to worst. However, it doesn’t end there, he was drugged. As he wakes up, he realizes that reality is a nightmare; he had done something that turns his stomach upside down and ruin the bright future he hoped for his family.

I wouldn’t spoil the details of the movie. All I can say is that the climax of the film shakes me and it is really disturbing. It was great in a sense that it knocks my head and lets me think about the essence of life, how people can do such act or forces others just to satisfy their cravings, they fetishes. It was more frightening to think that these kinds of things are actually happening in real life.

If you have the guts, I encourage you to watch it. But beware. It doesn’t allow me to sleep the night I’ve watched it. It is not because of any creepy creatures or the killers at a rampage. My mind was so shocked that it keeps me awake, astonished in a negative way.

12 Years a Slave (2013): Classic, Poignant

One of the best movies that I’ve seen is non-other than the 12 Years of Slave. The movie really deserves to won the best picture in Oscar 2014. That is the same reason why I decided to watch it. I was intrigue about how it was able to achieve such great award in the film industry.

I guess I’m not paying that much attention at my history class when I was in high school. Believe it or not, I got shock about how such things happen… the slavery of black people. That concept alone shatters my heart into pieces. They are living a normal life and they will be deceived and enslaved in just a snap.

The movie is real cruel. I guess it is even more painful to watch for our black brothers and I wonder how the white people feel about watching it. For me, as an Asian, my sympathy goes to those who are being slaved and degraded. And this film show me that others life were worse than mine.

This is an exceptional film that will lure you and capture your emotion throughout the film. My emotion as I watch it was mixed. It is like a roller coaster, I was happy at time, but there are more moments when I feel sad.

The actors are great, the story is great (especially because it is based on a true story), and the whole presentation is great as well. This is a movie that is nice to share with your loved ones, family and friends.
